Finish Strong 4 Alan
Alan is a 12 yr. old boy with dreams of playing college basketball, wearing the #4, spending time with his brothers and friends. At his age Alan has been faced with many challenges- he was diagnosed at 4 years old with hyperlipidemia –a hereditary disease which cholesterol levels are abnormally high and a 7 yr. cancer survivor. In 2006 Alan was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL), he has successfully completed all treatments in January 2010. Through it all, Alan is always cool as a cucumber with a determined spirit to overcome and Finish Strong.
On August 14, 2013, Alan and his family received the call that a liver was available and with prayers from family and friends for Alan and the donor's family the transplant occurred on August 15th. Post transplant Alan has continued to have a positive attitude and work hard towards recovery.
The goal for Alan to live a healthier quality of life with the hyperlipidemia comes with the need for a liver transplant. With the cost of a transplant often exceeding $500,000, transplant patients are unable to shoulder the financial burden of such a procedure. The Children’s Organ Transplant Association (COTA) is a national charity dedicated to organizing and guiding communities in raising funds for transplant-needy patients.
All donations are fully tax deductible to the fullest extent of the law and are administered by COTA. There are no administrative costs and 100% of all money raised goes directly to transplant-related expenses. There are volunteers in Snellville, Georgia, Cleveland & Cincinnati, Ohio that are raising funds for COTA in honor of Alan S.
Alan is the son of Andre and Alida Sims. Born on February 9, 2001, Alan is need of a life-saving liver transplant. An estimated $50,000.00 is being raised by a team of volunteers in both States
